Founded in 2012 by a small group of Nashville women who were motivated to challenge the low rate of participation and representation by progressive women in Tennessee politics, WTF began raising money and endorsing candidates in 2013.
Between 2013 and 2015, WTF endorsed eight candidates for offices ranging from Nashville District Attorney to State Representative to State Senator to Nashville Mayor and Metro Council.
In the 2015 Mayor and Metro Council races in Nashville, four WTF-endorsed candidates were elected: Mayor Megan Barry, District 23 Metro Councilmember Mina Johnson, District 8 Metro Councilmember Nancy VanReece, and District 28 Metro Councilmember Tanaka Vercher. The Nashville Metro Council now has more women serving as members than at any time in the history of Metro government.
In the November 2016 elections, WTF endorsed and funded 19 candidates in Tennessee State House and State Senate races. Information on those candidates is here.
